Business Language to go.

These are my personal notes from the podcast " Business Language to go" from the BBC, your short cut to fluent, accurate and natural sounding English.

Part 1

JOB INTERVIEWS

The interviewer might ask such questions such as:
  • Why do you want this job?
A possible reply: The company has provided me with many opportunities but now it has laid off many a employees, though my job is not under any immediate threat. (Say this if its the case and most probably it is. ) Moreover I want to move up the career ladder (= I want to take the next step)

Generally the interviewer asks the candidate for a hypothetical situation such as
  • If given a chance.........
  • What would you do if........
Such questions gives him an opportunity to ask how the interviewee might behave in future if he gets the job. Possible answer may start from phrases like:
  • I would behave ..........
  • I would do ....this......
Example:
Q. What are your priorities in approaching a job?
A. Firstly, I would like to have the support of people working under me. Secondly, I would work hard so as to fulfil the expectations of my boss and lastly, to provide the quality and service to the customers.

The interviewer might ask this popular question:
Q. What are your strengths and weaknesses? OR What are your good points and bad points?

Note: Many people won't elaborate on their weak points. If you want to elaborate, be less harsh on yourself. Try to show that you are working and improving on them.
Some of the key phrases to include while describing yourself, if you are so:
  • Self motivated / Strongly motivated
  • Highly committed
  • Self- starter
  • You are good at People Skills
  • Organisational Ability
  • Team Player
Drawing to a close, interviewer might put a vague marker (= not precise) such as:
  • That's pretty much I want to ask.
And he might end by saying
  • Do you have anything to ask or to clear?
A possible answer might start like: " I just like to know that......... "

THE END

A thoughtful diary entry or rather an imagination.

Description of night sky on Dec 12th, 2006 11:30 PM (GMT+05:30)

As the moonlight shed its cast upon the dark trees giving grace patterns to the Earth in the lime sky it seems as if the whole Earth had come to rest. The stars seems to be tiny holes in the sky. Long clouds seems to be running towards the moon and when they circle it, it seems that the moon has given whole of its bountiful energy over the years to it.

A tiny star in the far off tree seems like a tiny eye in the tree that calls to enshrine in itself all the furious energy over the years. The glowing light shows itself telling me to get away and not to unfold nature's mysteries but I'm as stiff as the tiny holes so it fades itself in a jiffy. And by this time, the clouds were off and moon was regretful. The light showed itself once again but I won't get away. That's what I'm made for and that's what mysteries are there- to unfold and bring to life the mummy's grave that may shook the whole world.

And with this note, I pity on nature to keep his mysteries his asset and this my life.
